I can't get into Christmas!!! I still have not bought one gift!! There are only 8 days till Christmas and still no Christmas spirit to be found!! I feel like the GRINCH! I have had a hard time in the past @ Christmas any ways. I think it is way to commercialized! People have forgotten what or why we even celebrate Christmas and what it's all about. I know that the kids love getting gifts and all of that, but why do we as parents make it about the bigger the gift the better?? I blame myself for my kids expecting so much ! And not that my kids are asking for alot , But this year is going to be different. Kirk and I have decided one thing each and that's it!! We sat the girls down and told them only one gift each. McKenzie immediately got here list crossed off everything except one thing!! I was so proud of her !!Kirk and I also thought that getting a house for Christmas was the best gift for everyone so we are not going to get each other any thing! I am hoping I can get out of this Grinch like slump and start to get in the Christmas spirit!! The one thing that I am looking froward to is being with Family, to me that's the BEST part!! Well Wish me luck!

Audra Im so sorry you are having a hard time, I do agree that these days its so hard to have the Christmas spirit everything is so rushed and commercialized. I think everyone is cutting back this year and Im to blame also for always getting my kids more than I should. The only thing Kell wants is to go to the cabin she wont tell me anything else. One thing I like to do is try to make someone else happy. Last year when Kell and I were eating lunch we left the waitress and big tip and then onetime we payed for the cars order behind us in the drive thru window. These little things always help me and the kids feel the gift of giving. Good luck with the shopping. Love ya
Good luck! I got your Christmas Card! So cute! Luv ya
It always helps me when I watch or read The Polar Express. It has such a good message in it. My second graders changed their gift requests from wii's to bells. Maybe it works for everyone?
Man, you really do have yourself a bad case of the "grinch". I agree with the comment above, doing something for somebody else always brings in the Christmas spirit. Every year when we were little (and even when we were POOR!) my dad would put $100 in an envelope and we would take it to somebody in need. We would leave it at their door and run, or drive away. It was the best feeling ever. Now Dan & I have done it every year and I always look forward to it.
We haven't given our kids a lot for Christmas and even though they're little I plan to keep it that way, even when they're older and want want want! Good for you for talking to them about it and setting a limit. I love that McKenzie is already on board!
I would have to say that a house is the greatest gift ever!
Wow...I don't know what to stay. I have always done to much for my girls. But ever since we were givin the 12 days of Christmas by our neighbors...still don't really know who. I take the girls and get a few kids things to donate towards an angel tree. I think it helps the girls realize that it's nice to help others too.
As for you my friend. I think that you guys getting your house is a great gift. I know that your kids appreicate everything that you do for them. And as parent don't we give to our kids all year round?
Merry Christmas!!!
P.S. We got your card and you all are such a cute family!
Thank you very much everyone for your suggestions!! I think we are going to go do a couple of them this weekend!! I think I am just in a rutt or a slump of somekind! I am digging my way out and hope to be out by Christmas! Thanks for the support and the love!! I Love you all so very much! XOXOX Audra~
